I-70/Dotsero Interchange

Dotsero, Colorado

The I-70 Frontage Road interchange over the Colorado River at Dotsero is a $7.3 million “green” bridge replacement. Tsiouvaras Simmons Holderness worked with Edward Kraemer & Sons to deliver this project, CDOT’s first successful transportation CMGC project. The integration of the Kraemer Team’s constructability reviews during the design process helped to mitigate environmental concerns, gave valuable input for the girder lengths and limits, and helped to mitigate risks for deep foundation caissons and embankment settlement. The team worked through the design following a Context-Sensitive Solutions (CSS) approach and brought the designers into the partnering sessions commonly performed by CDOT and contractors. The project was a success because a GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price) was obtained in the first iteration.

  • Developed the first CMGC transportation project for the Colorado Department of Transportation
  • Worked through the CMGC process to develop the plans used to gain approval from environmental resource agencies in an expedited schedule
  • Worked in a CMGC process to provide a design for a $7 million project that was on time and under budget
