US 36 Boulder Bridges Flood Recovery

Boulder County, Colorado

Tsiouvaras Simmons Holderness is providing construction management services on this $7.6 million flood recovery project. The heavy rain event and flooding in 2013 caused massive damage to the roadway and channel banks along the St. Vrain and Left Hand Creek drainages. This CDOT project encompasses the replacement of a 60+ year old concrete box culvert with a new single span precast bulb tee girder bridge to allow for the 100-year flood event. This bridge elevation is raising the roadway profile by approx. 8 ft’. The project also includes three bridge locations that require channel, bank, and abutment armoring improvements, and one location of storm sewer reconstruction and approximately ½ mile of mill and pavement overlay.

  • Provide an Assistant Project Engineer and one Inspector with oversite of materials testing and erosion control inspection
  • Observation of roadway and intersection
  • Utility coordination for the storm sewer and 50’ long retaining wall
  • Oversight to maintain pedestrian and bicycle traffic during bank reconstruction
  • Various coordination efforts of MHT for multiple locations
