I-25 Trinidad Viaduct Design-Build

Trinidad, Colorado

Tsiouvaras Simmons Holderness teamed with Lawrence Construction Company to replace the I-25 viaduct through Trinidad, Colorado. Using CDOT’s Alternate Bridge Design and Construction special provision, TSH redesigned 13 bridges that included both conventional precast prestressed U-girders and more complex spliced post-tensioned curved U-girders under a design-build format. One of the bridges was a 260-foot post-tensioned span over the BNSF and AMTRAK railway, requiring coordination with both railroads. Collaborative design by the Lawrence/TSH team resulted in the low bid price being $9.2 million below the next lowest bidder and allowing CDOT to award the project. In addition to bridge design, TSH provided a complete freeway realignment, drainage design, roadway design, utility coordination, coordination with key stakeholders, and construction administration services.
