I-70/Dotsero Interchange

Dotsero, Colorado

The I-70 Frontage Road interchange over the Colorado River at Dotsero is a $7.3 million interchange project in western Colorado. Tsiouvaras Simmons Holderness was tasked with realigning a portion of the two-lane I-70 Frontage Road (US 6) including a bridge replacement, roundabout design, grading, drainage, and lighting. The team was responsible for following a Context-Sensitive Solutions (CSS) process to evaluate alternatives and meet the guidelines established by CDOT’s I-70 Mountain Corridor plan. A roundabout was selected for the ramp intersection to address sight distance issues resulting from the new bridge alignment. TSH designed the roundabout to accommodate large trucks on all turns due to the truck parking area for weather events located on the frontage road. Other elements of the project included bridge and drainage design, grading, lighting, signing, and striping.

  • Developed a design that followed the Context-Sensitive Solutions (CSS) process in an environmentally-sensitive location over the Colorado River
  • Worked in close coordination with Eagle County in the development of a regional bike path and a roundabout that met the County’s vision
