I-70/Dotsero Interchange

Dotsero, Colorado

The I-70 Frontage Road interchange over the Colorado River at Dotsero is a $7.3 million interchange project in western Colorado. Tsiouvaras Simmons Holderness was tasked with realigning a portion of the two-lane I-70 Frontage Road (US 6) including a bridge replacement, roundabout design, grading, drainage, lighting, signing, and striping. TSH conducted an operations analysis of the Dotsero interchange which was formalized in a Minor interchange Access Request (MIMR) that was submitted to CDOT and FHWA, with FHWA approving it for use. TSH then developed and evaluated alternative alignments for the Frontage Road and the interchange. The roundabout design was chosen since it addressed the most project needs, including the sight distance issues. TSH designed the roundabout to accommodate large trucks on all turns due to the truck parking area for weather events located on the Frontage Road.

  • Developed a roundabout to address project issues and improve safety
  • Addressed needs of large trucks at this interchange
