Broadway Transportation Improvements - Euclid to 18th

Boulder, Colorado

Tsiouvaras Simmons Holderness served as the prime consultant for this $7 million multi-modal intersection reconfiguration in downtown Boulder. TSH designed the underpass structure, retaining walls, signage, lighting, and roadway modifications to Broadway and the Euclid, 16th Street, and 18th Street intersections. In addition, TSH developed concepts for addressing a pedestrian crossing at an intersection serving the University of Colorado and an adjacent transit stop. The split intersection concept developed by the team for Broadway and Euclid addressed the traffic operations issue by raising the road 5 feet and connecting several multi-use paths to the transit stops in a very constrained urban environment. The changes made by TSH to this busy intersection significantly improved the safety and mobility of a highly traveled and congested area in Boulder adjacent to the University of Colorado campus.

  • Made multi-modal intersection changes that improved safety and mobility between transit options
  • Reconfigured one complex intersection into two “T” intersections
  • Added signalization at the Broadway and 18th intersection to reduce traffic backups
