Broadway - Iowa to Wesley

Denver, Colorado

Tsiouvaras Simmons Holderness provided design services for the $23 million reconstruction of Broadway from Iowa to Wesley for the City and County of Denver. The project included full reconstruction of concrete pavement, widening on both sides of 5 to 6 feet, a raised median, retaining walls, new signals, lighting, drainage modifications and special drainage structures, utility relocations, urban design, water quality, environmental analysis and clearance, ROW plans and acquisition, and significant public involvement. In addition, TSH designed the Asbury Outfall, a major 72-inch storm sewer that runs from Broadway, under the BNSF, light rail, and Santa Fe Drive to the Platte River. A detour design was included for the South Platte River Bike Trail, to maintain mobility throughout construction. The project was a Local Agency project requiring NEPA compliance and CDOT oversight.

  • Designed reconstruction to integrate with existing trolley lines and RTD bus stops
  • Included new raised landscaped medians, street and pedestrian lighting, unique paving treatments, and additional streetscape improvements as a part of the “Better Broadway” initiative
