Regent Drive, North/South Bikeway

Boulder, Colorado

This multi-modal project for the University of Colorado included preliminary and final design for a 24-foot wide new pedestrian underpass on Regent Drive. The project is located in the middle of the historic University of Colorado Boulder campus, which required several context-sensitive approaches to meet the engineering challenges while maintaining the historic character of the University. Tsiouvaras Simmons Holderness designed a new roadway bridge, 1000 feet of retaining walls, parking relocation, new pedestrian facilities, relocated RTD bus stops, and a grade-separated pedestrian underpass to alleviate safety problems on CU’s campus. TSH was also responsible for construction management and administration, providing inspection and material testing oversight to ensure conformance to CDOT Region 4 Local Agency oversight.

  • Designed a new grade-separated pedestrian underpass that significantly improved safety for users
  • Optimized access through parking relocation, new pedestrian facilities, and relocated RTD bus stops
